Issue

The rates shown in SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise differ from the rates shown on the carrier's website for the same shipment.

Cause

When creating a label in SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise, the UPS or FedEx rate may include carrier surcharges or handling fees that the carrier does not show when you create a label on their website, but that they will add to your invoice later.

Resolution

FedEx and UPS Surcharges

In some cases, the rate shown on the carrier's website does not include certain handling fees or surcharges, even though those charges will be added to your invoice. Refer to prior carrier invoices to understand how the carrier bills these charges.

In contrast, the rates shown by SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise include all known fees and surcharges.

For example, if you do not set the residential indicator on a residential delivery on the carrier website, the residential delivery surcharge won't be included in the price of the label, but the carrier will still add that surcharge to your invoice.

In SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise, the residential indicator is set automatically for US residential addresses. Because that information is known when the rates are requested from the carrier, the total charges shown in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, or SendPro Online include the residential delivery surcharge.

SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise try to inform you when such fees have been applied. However, this is only possible if the carrier provides an itemized list of charges, and not all carriers currently do so (UPS does not).

A breakdown of known surcharges is available in your History after the label is created.

FedEx One Rate vs. Standard Rate Packaging

If the FedEx rate shown in SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise is different than the rate shown on fedex.com, this could be due to the packaging option you selected in SendPro Online, PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise.

There are two different FedEx packaging options, which usually have different pricing:

  • FedEx One Rate Packaging has a set price up to a certain weight, similar to USPS Flat Rate.
  • FedEx Standard Rate Packaging uses your contracted pricing through FedEx.
